Meet Our Leadership Team
Raphael Chow
CEO & Co-founder
Named on the 2021 Forbes 30 under 30 list, Raphael graduated from Oxford University with a Masters in Biochemistry. After graduating from Oxford University, Raphael worked as a strategy consultant for Deloitte.
In 2016, he quit his job to start Wevat with the goal of digitising the process of claiming back tax refunds on shopping. Since then, he and his team have raised £3.5m and successfully lobbied the UK government for a policy change to become the first B2C tax refund company to be accepted in the UK.
Raphael lives by the mantra “only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly”. Having overcome many difficulties throughout the pandemic, Wevat launched in France in Q4 2021.
Having spent his life in Hong Kong, Canada and the UK, Raphael is a living embodiment of “East meets West”. Raphael also runs a startup community called "Nest" to bring together the most talented diaspora Chinese founders in Europe.
Flávio Ferreira
Head of Engineering
Flávio is part of Wevat for some years now. He started as a Software Engineer with a main focus on creating a reliable and scalable system and he ramped up to Head of Engineering at the beginning of 2022. He did his studies in Portugal, where he is from, and during his career, he has developed some technical skills that allowed him to learn about and work on a big range of field of software development.
As a leader that’s always learning, Flávio is fascinated by the opportunity of working together with teams to make them grow, learn, help them succeed, and be their cheerleader. The values that guide his work are honesty, communication, respect, trust, having fun while working, constant learning and simplicity. The basis of his work as a leader is the same vision of Antoine de Saint-Exupery: “If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”
Although there are a lot of challenges associated with it, Flávio finds the ability to work remotely a privilege, as he can work from a space that is conducive to great work and focus, and he can balance work and personal life better. Being a travel lover, he also takes the opportunity of working remotely to travel and to know the rest of the world while working.
Flávio is an open-minded, transparent, and encourager human by nature, a good listener, a peacekeeper, and an includer. He loves to solve problems and he gives his best in everything that he touches.
